Abstract:

This paper aims at introducing a value preservation perspective through the life-cycle consideration in megaproject execution. Throughout the long time-span in megaproject setting, disparate participant organizations have access to large amounts of data which is collected, aggregated, and disseminated through a variety of enterprise resource platforms like SAP, etc., cost management systems and project management systems. However, the goal of such data collection is to report and justify towards tracking specific progresses and they use to live in data silos belonging to different stakeholders and have only recently been considered as a source for learning the evolution of the project as a whole. The proposal in the paper relies on the new usage for the data initially adopted to monitor the performance, focused now in better understanding behaviors and forecast based on the data driven approach. In addition, there is an abundance of documents related to the evolution megaprojects providing additional insights to be considered and properly handled. Specific context information related to BIM technologies will be discussed as a clear example for integration of data beyond the construction phase, by introducing further exploitation opportunities. In this context, digital transformation of the megaproject processes has a significant impact into the whole life-cycle of infrastructure delivery.
